Why Prepare?

When you consider we live on a peninsula with two main routes to and from, preparing our families in advance of an emergency or natural disaster is a sensible thing to do. Hazards that could affect Jefferson County  include earthquake, tsunami, landslide, flood, windstorms, winter storms, power outages, pandemic illness or terrorist attack.

Links to local agency and groups that support emergency preparedness and response:

Throughout the Olympic penninsula and across Washington state there are Neighborhood Preparedness (NPREP) volunteer groups that provide emergency communications and response for friends and neighbors. These groups work with the county and state EPREP agencies, law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical responders. Consider the case of extended power outages and communication outages (when mobile/cell and land line phones are out). The NPREP teams utilize hand-held FRS radios within a neighborhood area to communicate among each other and with agencies during an emergency.
